Today's transect went through the crop lands. This transect allowed us to directly really see some of the Human Elephant Conflict. Here farmers have built up treehouses over their fields which they often spend nights in keeping a look out for elephants. If they come across an elephant invading their land, they often throw down firecrackers to scare them away. Farmers also have found an effective way of recycling their former bottles and cans of booze - as elephant bells, that sound off if an elephant enters their land. We also came across an open dump for garbage that, unfortunately, acts as a food source for elephants.
Week 1 without shaving complete!
